With subsidiaries in Markham and Ottawa, Ontario, G&D enjoys long-standing, trusted relationships with the Bank of Canada, major financial institutions, major telecommunications operators, governments and transit authorities. The company remains committed to investing in the market, spending approximately $25- 30 million during the last five years to prepare for the recent EMV migration and enhanced driver’s licences, as well as building a new 125,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art, high-security production facility in Markham, Ontario in 2006.
In December 1995, G&D purchased Security Card Systems in Markham, ON, a well established magnetic stripe card production company. By 2000, G&D had realized their growth towards a majority share of the Canadian market. With development and trials dating back to 1997, G&D recently played the leading role in the EMV chip migration, with over 101 million credit and debit smart cards (contact/contactless/dual interface) across Canada from August 2008 to the end of 2011. The majority of secure financial cards in the Canadian wallet are produced by G&D. Today, with a work force that has grown from approximately 250 to 550 in little over 5 years, the facility in Markham is also host to the newly certified North American TSM hub (Trusted Service Manager) which will play a key role in NFC application management and provisioning, helping to enable the evolving mobile ecosystem in Canada. The Markham facility continues to be certified to produce Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diner’s Club International and all major chip card associations.
G&D also provides secure cards and solutions to governments and government agencies in Canada in the areas of Driver's Licences, Health cards, Transit and Gaming. In 2007, G&D produced and delivered the high-secure Driver's Licence and in 2008, the enhanced Driver's Licence for the province of Ontario. In transit, G&D has supplied transit passes for the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) since 1990, and more recently, the Presto Pass, a contactless transit pass for the Greater Toronto Transit Authority.
On October 22, 1999, G&D acquired the world’s fourth largest commercial banknote printing works, BA Banknote of Ottawa, ON, a widely respected Canadian-owned security printer for 133 years. Printing half the currency in Canada as well as international currency, the focus has been solely on banknote printing, quality, security and productivity. Over $17 million has been spent in capital investments (equipment and machinery) to enhance the high standard of security printing and many changes were made in order to ensure BA’s position within the banknote printers in the world.
The Software Solutions unit, a key Currency Processing R&D facility for G&D globally sits in the city of Vaughan, Ontario. Several years ago, G&D developed inventory management software for use between the Canadian commercial banks and the Central Bank for the Note Exchange System and continue to support the software today. G&D also provides Vault management systems and software, used by all major cash processors in Canada, as well as working on a large development project for a new vault system for the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank. Over the last few years, staff has more than doubled which resulted in an expanded location.
G&D supplies SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) cards to the major telecommunication companies in Canada. As the mobile ecosystem evolves, G&D’s North American TSM hub will play a key role to enabling the NFC system in Canada providing customers with the ability to implement robust and reliable mobile payment solutions.

The Petro-Points EMV MasterCard was recognized with the Product of the Year award from Consumer Survey of Product Innovation.
G&D is technology and solutions provider for more than 50,000 Mobile PayPass Sticker.
American Express (Amex) Canada launched the first dual interface card, the first for Amex globally. The card utilizes a unique Amex application on the Multos platform.
G&D managed the first DI product in Canada with an annually volume of 900,000 cards.
As the first large Canadian retailer to launch a credit card as a Dual Interface Walmart selected G&D to deliver the cards and services. Thousands of Canadians are using the Mastercard for their purchases.
G&D has worked with MPI since 2009 to deliver (enhanced) driver’s licenses and (enhanced) identification cards to Manitobans.
G&D supplies the MTO (Ministry of Transportation Ontario) with Drivers' Licence, Enhanced Driver's Licence, and most recently the Ontario Photo Card, providing Ontarians with a secure ID to meet their needs.
G&D is supporting the Ottawa Presto fare card release in Spring 2012, continuing to build on the reputation after a successful Presto roll-out for transit agencies within the Greater Toronto Area (GTHA).
