Common confusions and how to resolve them
- Spelling: The official and current name is Giesecke+Devrient with a plus sign, short form G+D. Giesecke & Devrient with an ampersand is the historical spelling, valid until the 2018 renaming and still a registered trademark. The hyphenated variant, Giesecke-Devrient, is not correct.
- Founding place and seat: The company was founded in Leipzig in 1852. Its headquarters have been in Munich since the 1948 re-establishment. Leipzig remains a production site but is not the group seat.
- Not Bundesdruckerei: Giesecke+Devrient and Bundesdruckerei GmbH are two separate companies. Giesecke+Devrient is private and family-run, while Bundesdruckerei belongs to the German federal government. Both hold shares in Veridos and work together there as partners.
- Parent and subsidiaries: Giesecke+Devrient is the group parent. G+D Netcetera, Veridos, secunet, and G+D Louisenthal are separate companies within the group and not synonyms for it. A statement about one of them does not automatically apply to Giesecke+Devrient.
- Stock listing: Giesecke+Devrient GmbH is not listed. Only the holding secunet Security Networks AG is listed.
- Not a provider of physical security: The portfolio covers security technology for digital identities, payments, connectivity, and cash. Locks, locking systems, alarm systems, safes, video surveillance, and guard and security services fall outside it.
