Digital payment solutions from G+D again win innovation awards from Juniper Research
Juniper Research has awarded two solutions from G+D with the "Future Digital Award for Payment Innovation". The QR code payment system for mobile payments and the company's payment platform for wearables won first prize in their respective categories. This is the second year in a row G+D has won awards from Juniper Research’s Future Digital Awards in two categories, emphasizing the company's leading role in the market for digital payment solutions.
Juniper Research is the leading market research company in the field of digital financial services. With its Future Digital Awards, Juniper Research has been highlighting the most innovative and effective technology solutions in a variety of categories since 2008. The winners are companies that have made outstanding contributions to their industry and will have a significant impact on the further development of their markets.
This year, Giesecke+Devrient (G+D) received the Platinum Award in the "Best QR Code Payment Offering" category for its solution Convego® Pearl for Mobile, the highest possible honor. Convego® CloudPay eSE, G+D's payment enablement for wearables, was also recognized with the platinum award in "Wearable Payment Innovation". Both solutions are based on G+D's proven and scalable portfolio for digital payments and enable safe, secure and convenient payments for everyday use.
With Convego® Pearl for Mobile, companies with closed-loop payment schemes such as in retail, quick service restaurants, petrol stations and more industries can offer their own QR code based prepaid and loyalty schemes, enabling their consumers to pay easily with their mobile phone – even if it is not a NFC compatible device. For QR code payments, the mobile camera and screen are that’s needed to pay, allowing merchants to enjoy a broader customer base and customer loyalty.
Convego® CloudPay eSE enables consumers to make secure contactless payments with wearables in different form factors by using tokenization technology. With connections to network payment schemes such as VISA and Mastercard and enhanced with token life-cycle management, the wearable solution provides ease of use for consumers to make everyday payments – any time, anywhere, on any wearable device.
Both solutions are already being implemented successfully in many countries. The leading Chinese service station operator PetroChina, for example, uses the closed-loop payment system behind the mobile-first solution Convego® Pearl for Mobile at 20,000 service stations, for daily consumer transactions with its own branded payment scheme. Convego® CloudPay eSE is applied by Swiss watch manufacturer Swatch, among others. Swatch’s SwatchPAY enables consumers to easily provision secure payments to their fashionable wearable, for secure, contactless payments.
"We are thrilled about the repeated awards from Juniper Research, which demonstrate our role as a leader of innovation when it comes to simplifying and securing payment transactions," said Jukka Yliuntinen, Head of Digital Payment Solutions at G+D. "The repeated award for Convego® CloudPay eSE inspires our innovation drive to create an outstanding wearable enablement service, complementing an end-to-end solution including secure devices and consulting. The Platinum Award for Convego® Pearl for Mobile highlights how important it is today to help retailers offer their customers the most convenient and user-friendly payment solutions possible."
"G+D offers a range of innovative payment solutions across multiple form factors. Both Convego® Pearl for Mobile and Convego® Cloudpay eSE were recognized by the judges for their disruptive potential," said Nick Maynard, lead analyst at Juniper Research. "We believe G+D has the pedigree and connections to grow these solutions and enjoy significant success going forward."
