Giesecke+Devrient collects more than EUR 350,000 in fundraiser for COVID-19 victims

The coronavirus is having a massive impact on people’s lives and the economy around the world. The Munich-based security expert Giesecke+Devrient (G+D) has teamed up with the Giesecke+Devrient Foundation in a global fundraiser to provide financial assistance to people who have been severely affected by COVID-19. In Germany alone, the employees and company shareholders raised EUR 173,000 in total. G+D has doubled that amount to about EUR 350,000. With additional donations from international G+D employees and subsidiaries, the company raised a worldwide total of around EUR 700,000. The donations will benefit people and organizations in need of support due to the corona crisis.

In these challenging times, G+D wishes to help people affected by COVID-19 and has therefore launched an internal fundraiser. “As a successful family-owned business, we are committed to our social responsibility,” explained Verena von Mitschke-Collande, G+D shareholder and chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the G+D Foundation. “With this fundraiser, we want to focus in particular on the surroundings of our business locations and provide assistance in places where our contribution can make a difference at the local level. Thanks to the outstanding commitment of our employees, we are now able to help people who have become destitute in the wake of the corona crisis.

Whether socially disadvantaged families, or particularly afflicted children and adolescents, or free-lance artists – the corona crisis has deprived many people of their livelihoods. Many charitable organizations are not always able to help given that many of them are themselves deeply affected and are experiencing a record decline in donation revenues. G+D wants to make a difference in this regard with its fundraiser and assist charitable organizations who often do not have the necessary reserves to continue their welfare programs in full during times of crisis.

“Despite the current corona pandemic, the commercial base of Giesecke+Devrient remains stable and sustainable,” confirms Ralf Wintergerst, Group CEO of G+D. “We strongly believe in giving back and want to do something good as a company. Our group companies have launched a worldwide fundraising campaign and assisted people in their regions. Apart from the cash donations, we also greatly appreciated donations in kind, which allowed us to directly and pragmatically assist people at the local level. I hope that in this way we were able to contribute in an uncomplicated way to improve the lives of people affected.”

In Germany, the employees of G+D helped – through their vote – to select the aid organizations and projects in and around the German G+D locations, who would benefit from the donations. The following institutions will receive equal shares of EUR 58,333 each: Förderkreis Kinderdialyse Leipzig e.V., Paritätische Haus für Mutter und Kind München gGmbH, Förderturm – Ideen für Essener Kinder e.V., Bayerisches Rotes Kreuz, the TUM Universitätsstiftung and artists in need. In addition, G+D is donating 100,000 face masks in coordination with the City of Munich, which will be distributed to local hospitals, retirement homes and facilities for the disabled.

The COVID-19-fundraiser in German is being conducted by the non-profit Giesecke+Devrient Foundation.
