Basic principles of the CSR strategy
The principles of the UN Global Compact as well as the Management Board commitment which sets out the approach for responsible corporate governance, are the framework for the G+D Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy.
Three key action areas form the basis of the CSR strategy on which the company focuses its activities: safe and environmentally-friendly site operation, a forward-looking HR policy, and fair and safe business practices. These key aspects are the result of an online survey of selected stakeholders in 2014. A review of the key action areas (materiality matrix) in terms of the new corporate structure is planned by the end of 2017.
Since 2017, the G+D Corporate Group has been split into four business sectors. Sustainability activities are pursued Group-wide in the new structure. The new corporate business sectors can also decide their own key focus in order to better meet specific customer requirements. The same key indicators for monitoring climate and environmental protection are used throughout the Group. In order to develop a sense of accountability on-site, the business sectors are responsible for practical implementation of the relevant measures.
Documentation of sustainability activities
Annual communication on progress
Since 2010, G+D has been participating in the UN Global Compact initiative, and it documents its activities and progress in the action areas of this global initiative in its annual Communication on Progress. Since 2015, this has been produced in conjunction with the G+D Annual Report – a sign of how closely operating activities and responsible corporate management are linked.
G+D commits to transparency with EcoVadis
Sustainable and responsible corporate governance is also increasingly important to our customers, and has an impact on us as a supplier. Through the EcoVadis online platform, we can comprehensively review and evaluate our actions and activities in the areas of the environment, working conditions and human rights, fair business practices, and a sustainable supply chain. G+D customers can view the measures and activities in the listed areas on the EcoVadis online platform, and assess them using the certificates and findings on the platform.
Communicating with employees and environmental initiatives
CSR award and action days
Active responsibility requires facilitating dialog and increasing the awareness and motivation of employees for them to commit to implementing measures. G+D supports this in various ways. For example, three action days were held in July 2016 on the topics of environment, health, and mobility. A Group-wide award is also presented for measures in the areas of innovation, technology, and sustainability. In 2016, the “Best Sustainability Measure” award went to the G+D Louisenthal subsidiary for the development of a heat recovery system. The subsidiary manufactures banknote paper and foils.
Climate protection requires dialog
Open dialog is a key part of the G+D CSR strategy. For example, discussions on climate protection initiatives such as the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and the Peer Learning Group (the German network of the UN Global Compact) are held regularly. Local projects include the “Klimapakt Münchner Wirtschaft”, which G+D has been involved in since 2016. The project aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the Bavarian capital.
