Ralf Wintergerst, Group CEO of Giesecke+Devrient, spoke with Julia Bowenkerk of Corporate Brand Communications about a range of topics in this video interview. Among other subjects, Wintergerst touched on transformation. It is a subject he knows intimately, having led G+D through its own transformation during his decade at the helm.
Wintergerst spoke about how transformation isn’t a switch – a “big bang,” as he put it – but rather an ongoing process made up of smaller initiatives and projects across the whole of an organization that pull together toward a larger objective. Everyone has to get on board, he stressed. That only happens with clear communication and steadfast dedication on the part of leadership. Stamina, or “grit,” is critical. The path toward transformation is hard and seldom straight, and it takes time. Other things will come up that demand your attention. If you want to stay the course, grit is a baseline requirement.
Elsewhere, he spoke about the uncertain times we all live in, and how G+D’s mission, securing people’s lives, is even more important in such a context. What people need most is a sense of security. G+D provides a measure of that precious commodity. This is, and will remain, G+D’s mission.
He also touched upon the future, the developments in frontier AI and how it is reshaping the technology landscape, and what trusted AI can mean in such a context. On a more specific note, he spoke about how post-quantum computing poses unprecedented threats to the banking and payments sector. Organizations in affected industries need to pivot to post-quantum cryptography.
