There’s a product revolution underway within progressive businesses everywhere. As they ramp up their sustainability strategies, many are actively transforming their product portfolios to ensure ever-lower carbon emissions and enhanced eco-friendliness.

The impetus for such change is broad-based. It’s driven internally by management and employees, as they channel resources and their energies into realigning the business for an ultra-low-carbon future. But it is also coming from conscious customers and commercial partners, local communities, and investors.

So, what does it mean to create a truly eco-friendly product portfolio? For G+D, it translates into products that are based on renewable and/or recycled resources, produced using sustainable energy, help to cut out wasteful processes, last a long time, and are engineered for a sustainable end of life1.

While those criteria are being applied right across the G+D product line, two examples stand out: G+D’s Green Banknote Initiative, developed by its subsidiary Louisenthal,2 and the company’s pledge to end the use of virgin plastic in the production of its cards by 2030. Alongside these two initiatives, G+D has numerous other programs created to bring a low carbon profile to digital infrastructures, passports, ID cards, and much more.

And the commitment is end-to-end. The greening of a product means reimagining every aspect of its life cycle, with sustainability built into design, production, logistics, sales, service, and maintenance, as well as end-of-life.

As that highlights, the journey to greener products is rarely a solo venture; it requires close collaboration. And G+D is actively building an ecosystem of sustainability-focused partners and customers who are committed to working together to embrace products that have low emissions encoded in their DNA.
