Questions and Answers on the Trainee Program

What sets the trainee program apart?

As a trainee with us, you take on responsibility right from the start of your 18-month trainee period. At the same time, we expand your social and methodological expertise through training, while the project phases focus on your technical development.
Our trainees also use their time to really get to know the company and build up a broad network that they can always take advantage of as they continue to develop. Stints working abroad also help to refine their linguistic and intercultural skills.

How is the program structured?

First and foremost, it is important that our trainee program is tailored to your personal abilities. You will be supported to follow an individual development plan. To start with, there is an introductory event and training on project management and communication.
Then, in the course of the 18-month trainee period, you go through 4-5 practical phases in various roles and in very different areas of our Group. After two positions within Germany, there is a period of working abroad that lasts around six months, during which time you will gain a great deal of insight at one of our subsidiaries.
During your time as a trainee, you will also regularly come into contact with our top management team, benefit from tailored training measures, and always be in close contact with a mentor. It goes without saying that you will receive regular feedback.

What positions do trainees go through?

Our trainees work in all areas of the business, for example in operations, project management, financial controlling, distribution, product management, and research and development.

Do all trainees do a period of work abroad? And where?

Absolutely. For approximately six months at one of our subsidiaries. As we operate worldwide, there are plenty of options here. The precise location for each individual trainee lands is coordinated case-by-case, and depends on your preferences and expertise.

Are training and development measures provided?

During the program, each trainee takes part in 2-3 seminars tailored to their particular social and personal skills development, such as negotiation methods, presentation, time management, and self-management. If necessary, this is also supplemented by external specialist training.

What will my prospects be after the program?

Ideally, after a training program you will join us in your first position – a demanding one – for example, as a Junior Project Manager or Junior Manager in International Sales. With plenty of support from the HR department, you are actively involved in choosing the next steps on your path with us.

What requirements do I need to fulfill?

We expect a good degree (master’s in information technology, engineering, natural sciences, or economics) and initial professional experience (includes internships or student traineeships). Fluent business English and experience of working abroad, flexibility, team spirit, and personal initiative are additional requirements.

How many places are there? And when does the program start?

The program starts every two years in November, offers space for 4-5 trainees, and lasts a total of 18 months.

What’s the best way to apply?

Please use our online application tool. You should also submit the following documents in electronic format with your application: cover letter, CV, school leaving certificate, and your bachelor’s or master’s certificate.

When will I hear from G+D?

You will receive a confirmation of receipt as soon as you submit your application. We will then review your application without delay, and get in touch as soon as possible. Submitting complete application documents speeds up the process!

How does the selection procedure work?

If your application documents have piqued our interest, we will invite you to a telephone interview that lasts approximately 20 minutes. If that goes well, you will be invited to a 1.5-day assessment at our center in Munich. That’s the final step.
On the first evening, you’ll have the opportunity to get to know the other candidates and chat with former trainees. Then it’s down to business on the second day: you will have the chance to impress us during simulations of tasks that await you on the trainee program, as well as in presentations and case studies, and during conversation.
The breaks really are breaks, and you won't be evaluated or observed during them. Representatives from the HR department, as well as managers, will be present during the assessment.
You will then receive personal and qualified feedback, and an answer as to whether you will be accepted on the program. We will of course cover any travel costs incurred.
