Ralf Wintergerst

Chairman of the Management Board, CEO

Ralf Wintergerst has been the Chairman of the Management Board of Giesecke & Devrient since November 1, 2016. In addition to his duties as CEO, he is responsible for the Central Services departments of Information Systems, Corporate Security, Compliance Management and Auditing, Corporate Communications, Corporate Strategy and Corporate Development.

Wintergerst started his professional career at DHL Worldwide Express. In 1995, Wintergerst moved to the German branch of American Express Ltd. in Frankfurt, taking on the role of Director of Key Account Management. Shortly thereafter, he took on the management of the Corporate Partnerships Department in the London office.

In 1998, Wintergerst moved to what was then the Cards and Services business unit at G&D in Munich, to take up the role of Director of International Subsidiaries. Between 1999 and 2005 he held various management positions in Currency Management Solutions, ultimately going on to head the division in 2006.

From December 1, 2013, Wintergerst was Member of the Management Board and headed up the Banknote business unit, which – together with the Banknote Solutions and Currency Management divisions – represents the entire cash cycle.

Stefan Auerbach

Member of the Management Board, Mobile Security

Stefan Auerbach is a Member of the Giesecke & Devrient Management Board since December 1, 2013, and is responsible for the Mobile Security business unit. Clients for this business unit primarily comprise banks, network operators, transport operators, and business enterprises worldwide. G&D, a one-stop provider of hardware, software, and services, supplies these companies with innovative digital security solutions, focusing on telecommunications and electronic payments.

Stefan Auerbach started his career in 1983 at the Nixdorf Computer AG. Between 1988 and 1994, Auerbach held various management positions in engineering, sales and marketing at the company, which was founded by Heinz Nixdorf in the mid-1950s.

In 1995, he took on the management of the Self-service Systems Germany business unit at Nixdorf Informationssysteme GmbH, which by that time had been acquired by Siemens. In 1999, the year that Wincor Nixdorf AG departed from the Siemens Group, Auerbach became a Member of their Management Board. He then managed the Global Services division there until 2005. From 2005 to 2012, Auerbach was responsible for the company’s global transactions with banks in his role as Member of the Executive Committee of Wincor Nixdorf AG.

Hans Wolfgang Kunz

Member of the Management Board

CEO of Veridos GmbH

Hans Wolfgang Kunz is a Member of the Management Board of Giesecke & Devrient since 1996, where he initially managed the Currency Automation and Services business unit. Since January 2006, he has been responsible for the Government Solutions business unit. This includes both secunet Security Networks AG (G&D majority holding) and, as of 2015, Veridos GmbH (G&D majority stake ownership), a joint venture between G&D and Bundesdruckerei (the Federal Printer), which succeeds the G&D division Government Solutions with Kunz as its CEO. The unit covers all security-relevant products and solutions for governments and public authorities, such as passport systems, visa systems, ID systems and card-based healthcare systems, e-government solutions, and IT security.

Kunz began his professional career in 1979 as assistant to the Management Board at the Georg Westermann publishing house in Brunswick. In 1982 he joined the Sales department at Giesecke & Devrient in Munich. Only shortly afterwards, he became sales executive for the product group Banknote Processing Systems, as which he expanded the company’s international operations. In 1988 he advanced to head of the Sales department for Banknote Processing Systems. When the company was reorganized in 1993, he took charge of the Sales and Marketing section of Banknote Processing Systems.

Dr. Peter Zattler

Member of the Management Board

CFO, Director of Labor Relations

Dr. Peter Zattler is a Member of the Management Board at Giesecke & Devrient since July 1, 2001. As Chief Financial Officer, he is in charge of the areas of Controlling, Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A), Treasury, Business Accounting, and Taxes. Since January 1, 2006, Zattler has also been responsible for the departments of Infrastructure Management and Human Resources.

From 1984 to 1986, Dr. Zattler worked in the Auditing department at Arthur Andersen. After earning his doctorate from the University of St. Gallen, Zattler was hired by Daimler Benz Group in 1988, where he held various management positions within the group’s financial function. He moved to Debis AG in Berlin in 1991 and then took up his role at Debitel GmbH & Co. KG in Stuttgart in 1993. From 1998 until he joined Giesecke & Devrient, Zattler was Managing Director of DaimlerChrysler subsidiary MCC smart GmbH in Renningen, Germany, where he was responsible for their Finance, Controlling, Human Resources, and IT departments.
