G+D Mobile Security presents secure mobile solutions for seamless travel at UITP Summit 2019

29/05/2019 Munich Giesecke+Devrient

G+D Mobile Security is demonstrating its comprehensive solution portfolio for public transport at this year's UITP (Union Internationale des Transports Publics) Summit. At the same time, the company can look back at 25 years of contactless ticketing.

The UITP Summit, taking place in Stockholm from June 9 to 12, is the world's largest trade fair for public transport. At booth A5140, G+D Mobile Security will present its secure mobile solutions for seamless travel offering end customers maximum convenience and enabling transport service providers to reduce costs, increase efficiency and meet the expectations of an increasingly digital society.

G+D's secure mobile ticketing solutions, that achieve highest security levels combined with simple control mechanisms, will be a focal point of the company’s trade fair presence. The G+D solutions are perfectly suited for all ticket applications from single tickets to monthly and annual tickets.

As the world market leader for eSIM management, G+D will also be presenting its latest developments for this technology in Stockholm. These includ

e, for example, solutions for the management of connected mobility platforms in smart cities. In addition, G+D Mobile Security will show solutions supporting transport service providers in the continuous monitoring and maintenance of ticket vending machines, means of transport and control devices.

G+D's presence at this year's UITP Summit falls into an anniversary year: In 2019, the company celebrates the 25th anniversary of contactless technology, which, with the aid of radio transmission, enables contactless payment, identification or access authorization, for example. In 1994, the first contactless chip card was launched, which was used by the South Korean capital Seoul for a ticketing solution. Subsequently, G+D played a leading role in the further development of this technology and contributed significantly to its spread by providing innovative solutions for smart cards, mobile phones and wearables.

In 1996, for example, the company supplied the first multi-functional contactless credit card with smart card technology in Germany – the Lufthansa ChipCard. It was used as check-in card, boarding pass and as "Miles & More" card. Over the years, more and more authorities worldwide have recognized the advantages of contactless ticketing and, with the support of G+D, have set up new contactless projects based on this technology. Contact-based cards, such as those with magnetic stripes, have increasingly been replaced by contactless counterparts. New form factors for contactless applications, for example wearables and smartphones, are increasingly complementing the smart card.

Today, contactless ticketing and smart cards have fundamentally changed the way of ticket usage in public transportation. Numerous transport providers and over 700 cities worldwide use it as a technology platform for secure, convenient and flexible ticketing.

"We have supported and advanced the modernization of ticketing in public transport right from the start", says Bernd Müller, Head of Division Connectivity & Device Solutions at G+D Mobile Security. "Our contactless solutions paved the way for numerous applications in the fields of transportation, payment, identification, bonus programs and access control. We will continue this success story with many more exciting use cases and innovations."
