Strong Customer Authentication (SCA)
The EU Revised Directive on Payment Services (PSD2) requires payment service providers within the European Economic Area to provide robust and secure customer authentication. This ensures that electronic payments are performed with multi-factor authentication. Even though these requirements originated in the EU, we see them being adopted globally.
Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is an authentication method that requires the user to provide two or more verification factors to gain access to a resource, such as an application, online account, or a VPN. MFA is a core component of a strong identity and access management (IAM) policy. We offer innovative solutions that not only comply with regulations, but also enable a state-of-the-art customer experience.
Three recognized types of authentication factors are available:
Type 1 – Something You Know: this includes passwords, PINs, combinations, code words, or secrets. Anything that you can remember and then type, say, do, perform, or otherwise recall when needed falls under this category.
Type 2 – Something You Have: this includes all physical objects, such as keys, smart phones, smart cards, USB token, and token devices. (A token device produces a one-time password (OTP)) or can compute a response from a challenge number issued by the server.)
Type 3 – Something You Are: this includes kind of verifiable-human biometrics such as fingerprints, facial recognition, iris scans, voice verification, and behavioural biometrics.
Thanks to G+D's authentication solution, we are now able to offer our customers a mobile authentication solution that is extremely user-friendly, based on user device biometrics. The exploitation of user-device biometrics minimizes costs, as the need for dedicated hardware is fully removed.

Convego® CloudPay eCOM and SCA
The biggest concern for e-commerce and online payments is cart abandonment at checkout. Tokenization and Strong Customer Authentication – or what we call delegated authentication – can prevent it and help increase conversions.
