HENN realizes technology center project at the Prinzregentenstraße site

08/07/2019 Munich Giesecke+Devrient

Together with the implementing company MC Grundstücksgesellschaft, global security technology group Giesecke+Devrient (G+D) is erecting a new building with around 42,000 square meters of floorspace at the premises of the company headquarters. The building complex at the Prinzregentenstraße site in Munich will offer space for companies operating in similar fields of technology as G+D. Architectural office HENN has now been commissioned with constructing this building at G+D’s Munich headquarters.

To further enhance the company’s head office in Munich, a new building with both office and commercial space is being erected at Prinzregentenstraße 159. The construction company is MC Grundstücksgesellschaft, which is owned by the owner family of G+D. The technology center to be built on the West side of the company site will replace an old building where the foundation stone for the Munich head office was laid in 1952. The new building with around 42,000 square meters of floor space will house about 2,000 workplaces and accommodate startups and other cooperation partners from the IT branch. The ground floor is to be reserved for retail and catering companies, thus providing added value for neighbors.

The plot of land for the future technology center is directly next to the Bogenhausener Tor with Bavaria Towers currently under construction. High-quality facades built in an ecological and sustainable way, quiet courtyards and free spaces and pathways for use by residents of neighboring buildings will enliven the quarter and form an important city gateway as envisaged by urban planners. Giesecke+Devrient and the implementing company MC Grundstücksgesellschaft place particular focus on the topics of energy efficiency and ecology, and the new building will be certified by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB), among other bodies. The contract for this construction project was secured by architectural office HENN, also located in the Bavarian capital.

“The big question was how to conserve the traditional character of the company site and, at the same time, create something completely new,” explains Marian von Mitschke-Collande, managing director of MC Grundstücksgesellschaft and representative of the building owner. “One aspect was the economic efficiency of the building. It was also important to reconcile strict urban planning requirements with flexible use of the space, as well as the sustainability of the building. Architectural office HENN won the contract by convincing us technically, economically and with regard to the schedule. The innovative architecture blends in harmoniously with its surroundings. The new technology campus will be a creative, attractive and lively place for both office workers, residents of neighboring buildings and guests.”
