What is an Entitlement Server?
An Entitlement Server is essentially an all-seeing, all-knowing backend entity that is able to tightly choreograph the end-user experience on a mobile device.
Referred to as an “ES”, it can communicate directly with a number of entities, not only including the mobile device and any of its companion devices, but also infrastructure components within the mobile network those devices are connected to. Additionally, the ES can reach out to any external party entities it needs to, including systems operated by the device manufacturer.
Because of its success, more and more services have been placed under the jurisdiction of entitlements, including 5G, International Roaming and eSIM Quick Transfer. And over time this has resulted in a near-optimum end-user experience, that would not have been easily achieved otherwise.
