An Entitlement Server is a capability that resides inside the carrier’s network working behind the scenes to tightly choreograph the user experience for your iOS and Android customers across a variety of mobile services and operations. The entitlement server enables mobile operators to manage various services on consumer devices, including the individual assignment and provisioning of services to the customer as well as any specific configuration settings.
To achieve this, an Entitlement Server, also referred to as an ‘ES’, has direct communication links with customers’ mobile devices (including primary and companion devices) and the carrier’s OSS/BSS. It is also able to manage interactive dialogues with the customer for certain services as required via use of a built-in or external Websheet Gateway.
Because of the success of Entitlement Server technology to date in providing customers with a near-optimum user experience, more and more services are being placed under its jurisdiction - device transfer being just one of the more recent additions. This trend is expected to continue as new services and device categories are brought to market.
